Raised in Pukekohe, New Zealand, Lawson won the Toyota Racing Series and was runner-up in DTM and Super Formula as a Red Bull junior. He debuted as a substitute for AlphaTauri in 2023, had a brief two-race Red Bull stint in 2025 and has since been a Racing Bulls regular.
